Punjab Wildlife Conservation and Habitat Restoration Program through Community Based Conservancies and Implementation Partners

The scheme titled “Punjab Wildlife Conservation and Habitat Restoration Program through Community Based Conservancies and Implementation Partners (New Scheme)” is designed to promote inclusive and sustainable wildlife conservation across Punjab by actively engaging local communities as key stakeholders. The primary objective of the program is to involve communities directly in wildlife conservation efforts while restoring and repopulating indigenous wildlife species through structured breeding and re-wilding initiatives. The scheme also seeks to enhance community livelihoods by linking conservation outcomes with economic incentives, alongside large-scale habitat restoration and improved ecosystem management throughout the province.

The final outcomes of the program include the revival and population recovery of endemic and endangered wildlife species, and the establishment of operational Community Based Conservancies (CBCs) and Private Wildlife Reserves (PWRs) as self-sustaining conservation units. The project will lead to improved habitat quality and biodiversity across Punjab’s landscapes, increased community income through regulated hunting, eco-tourism, and conservation-based enterprises, and strengthened wildlife management capacity at both community and departmental levels.
