The Afforestation along Linear Plantation in Punjab project is a large-scale environmental initiative designed to enhance ecological sustainability and climate resilience across the province. The core objectives of the project focus on enhancing biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and reducing soil erosion through the development of green corridors along canals and railway lines. The initiative also aims to support socioeconomic development by generating local employment opportunities through plantation and maintenance activities, while improving air quality, shade, and overall community well-being. From a strategic perspective, the project integrates afforestation into existing infrastructure networks to improve water retention, regulate microclimates, and support provincial and national sustainable development and environmental policies.
The final outcomes of the project are expected to include a substantial increase in forest cover, strengthened environmental resilience against climate-related impacts, and effective biodiversity conservation through native species plantations. In addition, the project will contribute significantly to carbon sequestration, helping to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases and support long-term ecological balance. By embedding green infrastructure into linear landscapes, the initiative will create sustainable ecological corridors that deliver lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits across Punjab.
